The FTR Trucking Index, which predicts shipping levels in the commercial truck industry, rose to a reading of 9.7 in November.
The growth in the index indicates that the commercial truck industry is expected to show even more growth in 2013 and that professionally trained commercial truck drivers will continue to be in high demand as carriers struggle to keep up with rising demand in shipping.
The Trucking Conditions Index is a compilation of factors affecting trucking companies and any reading above zero indicates a positive environment for truckers, FTR says. Readings above 10 signal that volumes, prices, and margins are likely to be in a solidly favorable range for trucking companies and the commercial truck industry is less than a point away from an above 10 reading.
"We were forecasting an improved environment for trucking even before the agreement just reached to avoid the 'fiscal cliff,’ said Jonathan Starks, director of transportation analysis for FTR. “There are still political hurdles to navigate in early 2013, but the agreement takes some of the uncertainty out of business plans. We'll keep monitoring the economy closely to look for any renewed softness in demand, but for now we believe capacity will tighten during 2013."
If you are looking for a new job that offers good pay and stability, the commercial truck industry could be the right fit for you. Western Truck School is helping students start a long-lasting career as a commercial truck driver through its CDL training program. |

Freight shipments rose 1.7 percent in November, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ Freight Transportation Services Index.
Not only was the index higher than the previous month, but November’s level was 15.5 percent higher than April 2009, which was the lowest month following the recession. According to the Freight Transportation Services Index, commercial truck shipping showed a large increase in November and transportation officials are looking for even more gains in 2013.
The commercial truck industry has been experiencing rapid growth for the past few years and that has led to a high demand for commercial truck drivers, especially those with professional training from a respected CDL training program.
For those looking to take advantage of the growth in the commercial truck industry, Western Truck School is preparing students for a bright and long-term career as a professional truck driver. The demand for drivers is high, but the majority of carriers are looking for drivers with experience and professional CDL training, and the Western Truck School is helping to create the next generation of American truck drivers.
The trucking conditions index is just another positive sign for the commercial truck industry where thousands of professionally trained drivers are needed to help meet growing demand. For those looking to take advantage of this Western Truck School offers a professional CDL training program that carriers across the country are turning to in order to find the next generation of commercial truck drivers. |
